State Art- Home Sweet Home

Hello friends.  Long time no talk.  If you are like me, you’ve been busy with life after you moved from Washington to California.  What’s that you say?  You didn’t just do that?  Alright, just me.  Well, whatever state you choose to call home, here is a little project to help you celebrate.

Several weeks ago, I found this simple chalkboard sign at the Target dollar spot.  Since I don’t think they are still in stock, you could easily make your own by creating a stencil to paint your own state on a wooden sign.

I then used a sharpie to outline the words “Home Sweet Home.”  I chose to really fill in the space I had and stretch the letters out.  Oh, and start by sketching it out in pencil.  You can erase your marks afterward.

Next, I filled in the letter outlines with different colors of acrylic paint.  I wanted to mark where we lived so I found a little wooden heart and painted it.  I painted the whole thing one color and then added an outline with sharpie.  A little glue and -BANG- done.

Fabric Christmas Wreath

Hey All!  I wanted to share my latest project with you.  Sadly I forgot to take pictures of the process, but I think you can figure it out from the finished piece.

I started by painting a piece of plain green fabric with various shades of blue, green, white, and silver.  After it dried, I cut out leaf shapes and traced each with sharpie.  I then did something similar with red fabric to make the berries and the ribbon.

Finally I used hot glue to attach them all to a wooden wreath base.  Done and done!

Sheep Painting

I recently finished a special order for a friend.  She wanted a painting of a sheep with a verse of scripture to hang in her nursery.  This is the finished project.

I’m really happy with it.  I worked long and hard to get it just right.  New moms know exactly what they want so I wanted her to be really pleased.

I struggled with the text and the eyes but am quite happy with how they turned out.  Do you like him?

Playroom Inspiration

As the playroom continues to take shape, I wanted to give you a glimpse of my design ideas.  I wanted it to feel like sunshine and the great outdoors.

You’ve already seen the table and chair set.

Here is a cloud pillow that I got at Ikea.  He’s just so fluffy and happy!

Finally here is a little art piece that I found at Michael’s.  I love that it ties in creating things for the craft room and then the sunshine of the room’s theme.

Hopefully that helps inspire you today!  I’ll share more as the room is completed!  I never knew how long a project could take, until I tried to get it done with two little kids around.
